Final version of Bears and Aliens

I wanted to continue with the fun, silliness of this video while adding to the feeling of space ships. While getting the "candy" sounds wasn't as easy as I originally thought, it was still a lot of fun. As for the space ship sounds, I had far too many choices and had a hard time deciding what fit the best with what I wanted.

After trying unsuccessfully to get the candy sounds myself, I gave up and found a sound bite at Freesound.org. The space ship sounds are recordings I did from a movie titled "Rocketman" and also from my younger sister. These recordings were made and edited using Audacity. The laughing is from a youtube video that I captured the sound from using listentoyoutube.com and edited in Audacity.

vector project

For my vector project I decided to redo a book cover for a childrens book that I loved when I was younger. The book is called “The Monster at the end of this Book.” While the book its self is silly and cute I decided to try and use some fairly recognizable figures from some more recent movies. I wanted to push the idea that one “Monster” was scared of another as that is the whole idea behind the book.
To make this book cover I used images of Mike from “Monsters Inc” and one from “Monsters vs. Aliens” as well as a random cutesy monster I found online. I then created a background, downloaded a new font, and added the images mentioned above. Then I warped both the cartoon monsters so that they were not exactly the same as in the movies. After I got the two main monsters done as well as the background and text, I resized the cute monster. I also made multiple copies of this monster in various sizes and placed them around the piece.

vector excersise

For my exercise I wanted to show that a student can be a teacher and a teacher is also a student. No one knows everything and I wanted to explore that some. Mostly though I wanted to play with the different fonts and how they fit certain ideas.
I downloaded a few fonts that I liked and then mostly just played with the placement. I would get the word close to were I wanted it and then I would move each letter to the exact location that I wanted it. I also used the text path tool to write on the existing words.

Old Main

These are some of the many images I have taken of Old Main for my raster project.

Raster Project Proposal

For the raster project I would like to use pictures of the Old Main building on the ASU campus. I think I would like to do a piece that shows all the activity that goes on in front of this building in the middle of the day. There are tones of people that walk by, walk in, or even just sit on the steps and read for a while. I have always loved this building and would like to show that even though it is the oldest building on campus that doesn’t mean it isn’t popular and beautiful. I want my final piece to flow and be fairly seamless and smooth. In addition I think I would get the best idea by taking all the photos from about the same spot.

My second idea is to take pictures of the Old Main building and make a composite of the outside but with spots that show the inside of the building. Kind of like a cut out to show the elegance of the inside and how it matches the outside. It might end up looking kind of like a doll house where you can see the inside on the outside. I would take several shots of the outside and then move to the inside and take pictures from the same direction as the outside. For example I would take pictures of the front and then once I went inside I would also take pictures from the front of the building.

My final idea is to do something at my house and show all the activity of a family of five. It would not be staged and would show how my family moves around our house and how often we are, or are not, all in the same place at the same time. This would also show all the different interests that one family can have. I would choose a room in the house and mark out where I would shoot from and take as many pictures at different times of the day as I can. Then I would add them all together into one piece.

Kaloczi Raster Exercise

For this exercise I wanted to show what I think of Justin Bieber. I personally don’t like him or his music. I think he is an excessively popular person with little talent. He is adored by many young girls, in my opinion, for no reason. I wanted to show that while he is considered good looking and popular he is two faced and not as good looking as he would have you believe.
To make my piece I took a picture of Justin Bieber from Google and cut out the background and made two copies of just his head. Then I took a picture of “Bruce the shark” from “Finding Nemo,” made it smaller, and copied just Bruce’s smile. I then took a picture of a unicorn, made it smaller, and cut out the background. Finally I took another copy of the image from “Finding Nemo” and made it large enough to fill the image size. Then I put it all together. I did this by placing one copy of Justin Bieber’s head onto the image of Bruce and making it 59% translucent. I then took the second copy of Justin Bieber’s head and put it to the right of the first copy offsetting the two. Then I burned in the area of Justing Beiber’s eyes on the second copy as well as dodging out his nose almost completely. I then placed the shark’s smile over Justin’s mouth and put the unicorn in front of Justin’s new mouth.
